Recruitment Requests during COVID-19
Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic and associated budgetary shortfalls, the UW has instituted a recruitment and hiring freeze and has placed increased oversight requirements on these activities. The Dean will be responsible for approving recruitments and hiring requests effective June 1, 2020.
JEMS PVL submission processes remain unchanged, however recruitment and hiring requests must also be submitted via a new Request to Recruit/Hire form (in addition to the JEMS PVL entry). The request form is a means of providing the Dean with easy access in one place to review/approve recruitment and hiring requests. For the time being, this form replaces the recruitment/offer request email process and applies to all recruitment/hiring requests, not just those on restricted/GPR funding.
Request forms are submitted, via email, to the unit’s CALS HR Manager by the Department Administrator or their designee. It is crucial that requests are submitted as soon as is practicable to allow sufficient processing time.
Requests are initially reviewed by the unit’s CALS HR Manager and the CALS HR Director and final determination is made by Dean VandenBosch in all cases. Dean VandenBosch plans to review requests two times per week, but this may fluctuate.
Requests must include all information specified in the form and are to be submitted for Academic Staff, Faculty, Limited, Temporary, and University Staff employee classes.
Once the Dean approves a request, the unit’s CALS HR Manager will review and division approve the JEMS PVL entry as appropriate for campus review.
The Request to Recruit/Hire form will need to be rerouted by the unit Department Administrator/designee to their CALS HR Manager when requesting a hire (page two of the request form). For recruitment waivers, pages one and two are completed simultaneously.
